I recommend you watch The Strangers

Tää perustuu tositapahtumiin, jossa mässäillään veren ja sisälmyksien sijaan realistisella otteella ja psykologisilla jännitteillä. Mikäli hiipivän kauhun ja jännä-kakka-trillerin risteytys kiinnostaa, kovasti suosittelen!

The Prestige review

Posted : 1 month, 3 weeks ago on 2 December 2011 03:21 (A review of The Prestige)

The whole time I was waiting for the secret because everything was pointing in the direction of one slapping in your face. But instead half I could guess half way of the movie and the other half just didn't convince me, allthough it was clever. Overall I was just disappointed. I expected more truly clever twists, not just some weird science fiction stuff and emotionally distant turn-arounds.

Up review

Posted : 1 year ago on 20 January 2011 08:07 (A review of Up)

Up had more meaningful, non-preachy content than Wall-E, but I'm still left a bit puzzled what the movie is ttrying to say. You're never too old to pursue your dreams? That's just not true. You can learn a thing or two from a senior citizen? Well, duh, sen that one many times. Just when you think things are going downhill and there is no way of stopping it, you can tie a bunch of balloons to your house and fly away? Even kids won't buy that one.

What striked me the most was that little moment when Fredricksen flips the photo album his wife had put together and realizes that even though their dreams of adventure didn't come true no matter how hard they tried (how depressing, but atleast a possible scenario for a change), she considered their life as adventure. Life is an adventure! Too bad the movie spends so much time doing... other stuff than exploring this.

What I liked about for example, in Finding Nemo, it was exactly the fact that the themes about single parenting, disabilities, growing up and believing in yourself are always there evolving and making a consistent contribution to the story.

Up didn't convince me, allthough it is a fun movie to watch and enjoy with the family.

Watched this as a kid. Very nostalgic. Used to admire Steven Seagal's kicks.

Genious

Posted : 2 years, 6 months ago on 5 July 2009 08:15 (A review of The Secret of Monkey Island)

This is so great and fun to play. This is what a really good game is about - it doesn't matter if the graphics are badly dated, it work, you get the idea, and the story is hilarious. Once you get the idea, it's really easy to play, and though it doesn't offer that much of challenge, it's enjoyable to discover what the storyline and the surroundings have to tell you. The sequals are a different story... They are totally crazy and really hard, I needed online guides to get anywhere...

You get to play as Guybrush, a pirate-wannabee that sets out to adventures while trying to save a governor and stop the evil pirate-ghost that's haunting the town. You solve puzzles as you go, interact with the npc:s and discover the secrets behind Monkey Island.

It's a blast, I totally recommend it. It might be a bit of a cliched experience, because it has given so much to the popular culture of portraying pirates and pirate adventures. I was screaming Pirates of the Caribbean at my computer screen all the time.

Visually stunning movie with a good premise

Posted : 2 years, 7 months ago on 2 July 2009 05:40 (A review of Sunshine)

Sunshine isn't something to be marveled by it's plotting and characters nor even the acting, it's all vague and even kinda stupid at times. What is great about this movie is the premise of Sun being on the edge of shutting down, thus killing all the life on Earth, and people trying to re-ignite it with a nuclear weapon. A good idea and highly entertaining. As expected, everything goes terribly wrong and here we go again.

The movies's visuals and sound effects are something else though. They exceed the regular scifi movie level, and Sunshine is beautiful to look at. If you can't appreciate this, you'll certainly be bored and confused. Otherwise it's an experience you probably won't regret.

Adverts and stupid plots

Posted : 2 years, 7 months ago on 2 July 2009 03:11 (A review of Sex and the City)

This movie is plain stupid. It's filled with product placements and adds, the plot is horrible and totally nonbelievable (even in the Sex and the City universe that is), the characters are at their worst's and it's way too long. Watching the series was an enjoyable blast, this was yawing and freakin horrible. I never want to see this movie again.

Kinda cute, kinda stupid

Posted : 2 years, 7 months ago on 2 July 2009 03:05 (A review of Godzilla and Mothra: The Battle for Earth)

I'm not gonna waster too much breath on this one. Mothra's real cute. Godzilla is hilarious. Battra is weird, but turns out pretty good. The movie is one big "wtf lol" experience, but atleast you get to hear some weird nordish songs performed by the Universe (or two tiny fairies). The effects are funny and the story telling is weird. If this happens to be on tely, check it out, just because of Mothra.

So bad it's hysterical

Posted : 2 years, 9 months ago on 27 April 2009 03:10 (A review of Eight Below)

Horrible acting, overly humanized animal characters, melodramatic plot twists and an ending so sugar coated it makes you wanna throw up. Eight Below is so bad that it makes you laugh - that's the best thing this movie has to offer. Plus the dogs are very cute and well trained, if you can get over the fact that they are just a new bunch of Lassies.

Inspiration for a kid

Posted : 2 years, 9 months ago on 23 April 2009 06:02 (A review of Contact)

This review is pure sentimentalism, so if you're not into that, skip it.

I watched this movie as a kid, around 10 years old, and I got instantly sucked into t he world of stars, planets and space - and exploring it. I was already a dinosaur geek (thanks to Jurassic Park), and this was a somewhat natural next step. The following years as I grew into a teenager this film carried with me, inspired me to loo for knowledge, study maths (which in I always sucked, by the way) and be generally interested in science. I love this movie, because it gave me a huge push towards the way I am now - still fascinated by science and nature, outer space and stars, and learning for more.

Funny and provocative - for a while

Posted : 2 years, 9 months ago on 23 April 2009 05:17 (A review of House M.D.)

House is a blast. He's mean, he's direct, he doesn't seem to like anyone nor does he have to. He's a genious who solves EVERY case you could possibly throw at him - you know each and every time that this guy scores it. Not his collegues, but him. It's always him.

This routine covers every episode of the show. No, serisouly, it does. From the beginning right to the end credits, you know how exactly all of this is going to play out - some weird disease, some funny dialogs between characters, some weird patient of House's, more of that weird disease, "What IS this, what COULD it be? Let's do tests" and in the end when the patient is having a bunch of near death experiences, House gets in the way with some nifty solution he discovered while picking his toe hair from his coffee. Patient saved, end credits follow.

It gets pretty old after a few episodes. Can't believe they've made so many seasons of this same weird-funny-mean-deep-inside-warm-old-genious -stuff.

For the while it lasts, it's all good.
